Drug Court For Alleghany, Surrounding Counties Probed

Newly appointed Alleghany County Commonwealth Attorney, Ann Gardner tells our newsroom that she has inquired with the supreme court about more information on and the possibility of creating a “Drug Court” that would serve not only Alleghany County, but also the Counties of Bath, Botetourt, Craig and Rockbridge.

According to Virginia Code, the Drug Treatment Court Act says the court’s goals are to (i) reduce drug addiction and drug dependency among offenders; (ii) reduce recidivism; (iii) reduce drug-related court workloads; (iv) increasing personal, familial and societal accountability among offenders; and, (v) promoting effective planning and use of resources among the criminal justice system and community agencies.

Meetings are currently taking place to look at this process.
