Free Drive-Up WiFi Locations Announced Around Greenbrier County Schools

Countrymen has installed drive-up, free wi-fi at a few parking lots within our service area including
The State Fairgrounds in Fairlea (the paved parking lot near the tunnel), Alumni Park parking lot in
Alderson, and Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Dept. parking lot. The services will be available from 8am
to 7pm. In order to keep the drive-up service available, users need to follow the state’s guidelines
for social distancing and stay in vehicles. Parking vehicles in the direction of the wi-fi device will
allow better signal. The service will turn off promptly at 7pm.

Health Department Seeking, Accepting Home-Sewn Masks

Greenbrier County Health Department has collected over 250 beautiful masks for our healthcare community but MANY MORE ARE NEEDED. Donations are gratefully accepted at Greenbrier County Health Department or designated United Way locations across the county.

Task Force Addresses Public Health And Business

The Greater Greenbrier COVID-19 Task Force met Wednesday via conference call and discussed public health. WalMart, Kroger, & Dollar General are now offering senior hours for shopping. At WalMart, it’s 6-7am on Tuesdays. At Kroger, it’s 7-8am on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. At Dollar General, the first hour the store is open is devoted to seniors. Workers may begin wearing masks just to be safe. In terms of testing, new rapid testing has been requested here and we hope to receive some in the next few weeks. Any rapid testing that is received will be given to the hospital. West Virginia’s peak for COVID19 cases is expected in late April. Out of 160 total tests in Greenbrier County, 66 are confirmed negative, 4 are confirmed positive, and 90 are pending.

Task Force Meets To Talk School, Other Issues

The Greater Greenbrier COVID-19 Task Force met Wednesday via conference call and one of the issues discussed were schools. Plans are being made by local school leadership about how the rest of the year may unfold. They are meeting via phone weekly. GGLTRC and GCS will continue providing a distribution network. Next week, meals will continue to be distributed at all elementary schools, as well as Renick, Williamsburg, Marvel, & Alvon serve as distribution sites. Bus drivers are running their routes for deliveries. The National Guard previously assigned to assist with student meals has been reassigned.
