Virginia Attorney General Sues Big Pharma

Wednesday Attorney General Mark Herring filed a lawsuit against Purdue Pharma for allegedly deceiving Virginians about the dangers of opioids. In the lawsuit, the Commonwealth alleges Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, violated the Virginia Consumer Protect Act (VCPA) and created a “public nuisance.” According to the Attorney General’s office, between 2007 and 2017 more than 7,800 Virginians died from an opioid overdose. More than half of these deaths were from prescription drugs.
